Save AFSCME Jobs!

On Monday, May 6th we need your help to save AFSCME jobs in Medford and Rowley! Come support our AFSCME brothers and sisters in Locals 3338 and 2905.

In Medford, the School Committee is attempting to lay off 6 AFSCME Local 3338 Clerical Workers and 15 Medford Teachers Association members along with 6 Administrators to close a projected budget shortfall. These dedicated AFSCME members do the quiet behind the scenes work to make sure that our public-schools function properly and our children are in safe learning environments.

The Rowley Board of Selectmen are proposing to shut down the Rowley Emergency Communications Center and send the jobs of our Local 2905 Emergency Dispatchers to an unproven regional 911 Center. In the event of an emergency- when seconds matter- the consequences are far too dire. Once Rowley dismantles its Public Safety Dispatch system, there is no turning back. It will be difficult if not impossible to bring dispatching back in-house.

Across the country, states, cities, towns, and schools face severe staffing shortages- now is not the time to be cutting critical public services. Our communities and our members deserve better.

We must stand up and fight for our AFSCME brothers and sisters whenever our jobs are threatened, because when we fight we win!
