Council 93 Members Recognized for Dedicated Public Service

Three AFSCME Council 93 members were recently recognized for their dedication to public service and helping their communities. 

New Bedford Local 851 President Shelley Avila-Martins was named Massachusetts Animal Control Officer of the Year by the Animal Contol Officrs Assiciation of Massachusetts.

Local 1198 Vice-President Timothy Bradeen and Local 1526 Steward Tracy Wiggins were both recipients of the 2024 Henry L. Shattuck Public Service Award from the Boston Municipal Research Bureau. The Shattuck Award recognizes City of Boston employees who exemplify integrity, initiative, leadership, and commitment to the public good.

Timothy Bradeen, senior traffic engineer for the Boston Transportation Department, has worked for the city for more than 30 years employing what the Bureau called his extensive familiarity with the city’s geography, streets, and traffic patterns.

Tracy Wiggins is special assistant librarian and circulation supervisor at the Roxbury Branch of the Boston Public Library. An employee for over 30 years, her warm demeanor has earned her the nickname “Sparkle. In the Bureau’s opinion, “She serves as a great ambassador for the Boston Public Library.”
