Massachusetts South Shore

The South Shore Office is located in the historic whaling City of New Bedford, approximately 60 miles south of Boston. We represent over 4,000 members in 20 locals, covering 127 contracts and representing members in more than 50 municipalities, school districts, and private vendors. Our area covers towns from the Rhode Island border to Foxborough, Duxbury to Provincetown and the islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Our membership includes town hall workers, DPW units, Councils on Aging, County Sheriff Captains, school cafeteria, custodial, paraprofessionals, nurses, bus drivers, security guards, and clerical; library staff, municipal gas and light plants, EMS, civilian dispatchers, housing authorities, and human service workers. Our staff representatives work diligently to negotiate collective bargaining agreements, represent members in grievances and in filing unfair labor practices to ensure respect and dignity in the workplace. We work closely with the local leadership to ensure compliance with all federal, state and AFSCME financial code standards. We also train our stewards and local leadership in their duties so that they can be successful in their elected positions.
