Statement from Executive Director Mark Bernard

Statement from AFSCME Council 93 Executive Director Mark Bernard on Governor Maura Healey’s decision to pause the closures of the Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children and the Pocasset Mental Health Center.
“We are grateful to Governor Healey for agreeing to take a step back from closing these critical facilities and at the same time, taking a step forward by agreeing to spearhead discussions with patients, families and labor that will hopefully preserve Pappas and Pocasset for many years to come.
We still have a lot of work ahead and we are still facing deep cuts to critical human services programs, but tonight’s announcement was a great start and proof that the activism of our members has a strong impact and makes a big difference.”
