The North Shore Office is located in the Town of Burlington, north of Boston, right across the street from Burlington’s beautiful Town Common. We represent over 4,800 members in 34 locals and 184 contracts servicing municipal, school district, higher education, public safety, and private sector members across Essex and Middlesex Counties. Our area covers towns from the New Hampshire border to the Boston Suburbs and from the coastal communities of Rockport and Gloucester to the industrial cities of Lowell and Lawrence. Our membership is diverse and includes-town hall workers, public works employees, cafeteria, custodial, paraprofessionals, nurses, bus drivers, security guards, and clerical workers at public schools, library staff, municipal gas and light plants, EMS, civilian dispatchers, housing authorities, police officers, fire department employees, registry of deeds employees, and human service workers. Our experienced staff representatives work diligently with local union leaders to negotiate collective bargaining agreements, represent members in grievances and in filing charges of unfair labor practices, and provide legal advice to ensure respect and dignity in the workplace. We provide guidance and work closely with the local leadership to ensure compliance with all federal, state and AFSCME financial code standards. We also train our stewards and local leadership in their duties so that they can be successful in their elected positions.
