The Maine office, located in Manchester, services about 2,600 AFSCME Council 93 members consisting of 18 Locals with 91 bargaining units. The Maine office covers members as far north as Aroostook County, including Limestone, Ft. Fairfield, Presque Isle, Houlton and Caribou to as far south as Sanford, as well as both eastern and western areas of the state. AFSCME members serviced by the Maine office work a number of public and private sector jobs including school bus drivers, custodians and food service workers, paralegals, secretaries, public works crews, waste water treatment workers, housing authority workers, CNA's, nurses, airport workers, as well as the State of Maine Institutional Services employees under the State contract who work as Correctional Officers and Sergeants, Cooks, Mental Health Workers, Laundry Workers, and Care & Treatment Workers. The State bargaining unit consists of 2 juvenile correctional facilities and 6 adult correctional facilities, 2 mental health hospitals, and a number of regional health care facilities located throughout the state. The Maine office also represents County Corrections Officers and Dispatchers in the counties of Penobscot, Oxford, Androscoggin and Piscataquis, Firefighters in Brewer, Houlton and Millinocket, and Police Officers in Mexico, Waldoboro, and Winthrop. The staff works diligently to ensure that members' rights are protected by enforcing contract language while working closely with Local leadership. AFSCME has been representing public-sector workers in Maine since 1945.
